Broken Strings - St LP
Long oop LP from Broken Strings, which boasts "fourteen tracks of genius, cassette-damaged power-pop." The brainchild of one dude, who supposedly recorded this string of songs in a secluded location by himself while suffering from schizophrenic episodes. Has a totally awesome blown-out vibe which is reminiscent of GBV, the ramshackle punk of bands like Hickey or the Bananas, as well as obvious vocal / topical nods to Daniel Johnston. Some of these tracks get stuck in my head for weeks. A great speedy motorcycle jammer, not a bad song on this one!

is there anything nowadays that isn't reminiscent of gbv in some small way? most of the comparisons seem uninspired. as much as i want to hate this record (not even sure why, perhaps the gbv mention, once the music starts I can't help but find the songs appealing. Aloha Sweet Monster is pretty hard to resist, as is straight to crooked flats. Thanks for posting this. I think i like it much.
